About the
Digital Portrait Painting
Your Digital Portrait Painting is as important to me as it is to you,
and that's not just a cliché! Into each painting goes many hours of
creative emotion and expression making the portrait painting a
reflection of the artist as well as the subject. For this reason also it
is important to begin with the best photo possible. As you will see in the
example images, the digital portrait is an actual painting with
hand-done individual brushstrokes and not automated style effects or
blurs on an image. These are real paintings in every sense, the only
difference being the use of digital paints and brushes. Because the
paintings are done by hand they receive the same
attention to composition, lighting, color, brushes and paint medium that every painting
requires. Often the nature and feel of a image as well as the client's
preferences will dictate a certain style, brush and color choices for a painting
such as wet oils, dry bristle, watercolor, etc. For most portraiture, however, oils are recommended
as they allow the richest color, depth, and lifelike details.
The example portraits show the progression from photo to painting.
The first image is the original photograph, then the pre-proof, third the finished painting,
and lastly a close-up showing the details. The close-ups show the level of detail and quality of the paintings.
As you can see, they are actual paintings with hand-done individual brushstrokes and not just automated effects
or blurs on an image. All of my digital paintings are done painstakingly by hand down to the last detail.
The portraits closely resemble the pre-proof images so you can be assured of no surprises once you have
approved the pre-proof.
